The Coolart Wetlands and Homestead is a historic farming property situated on the shores of Western Port Bay on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia. It can be accessed by Lord Somers Road, Somers. The Coolart Homestead is a late Victorian mansion dating from 1895, it has lovely gardens, designed in 1938 by David Matthews (the curator of Footscray Gardens), walking trails through the wetlands and down to the Bay through the Balnarring Foreshore Reserve on Western Port Bay. There are four loop walking tracks ranging from 1km (30 mins) to 3.1km (2 hours) including a Wetlands Observatory. There is a picnic area with tables and free electric barbeques, and visitor toilets.
It is well worth a visit - check the opening hours of the homestead before you go, and take a picnic to enjoy after you have wandered the walking tracks. Click here for a photographic representation (40 photos) of the Homestead and Walking trails.
