These pictures were taken in June 2007 on and around the Tonlé Sap Lake, near Siem Reap, Cambodia.
In the wet monsoon season, the Tonle Sap Lake swells to cover up to 16000 square km, however, in the dry season the lake shrinks to as small as 2500 square km. In the wet season the surrounding floodplains are inundated with the rising water.

Chong Khneas
Chong Khneas is a floating village at the edge of the lake close to Siem Reap. The houses can be towed to different locations during the wet and dry seasons.

Kampong Phluk
Kampong Phluk consists of three villages of stilted houses within the floodplains of the Tonle Sap. During the dry season when the lake is low, the buildings stand high off the ground. In the wet season the waters cover the ground underneath the houses.
Between Siem Reap and the Tonle Sap Lake
On the way from Siem Reap to the Tonle Sap there are houses lining the roadside. In the wet season these houses will have water underneath them
