Where we live, the Summer sun can be fierce and fades clothing items that we hang on the line. You can hang t-shirts so that the inside is exposed to the sun (and subject to fade) but the outside remains fade-free!
Why to avoid T-Shirt Fade
- T-shirts use valuable resources to make. If we can increase their longevity, and avoid the overall amount of clothing heading to landfill at the end of its life we are doing our planet a favour.
- The cost of replacing your T-shirts more frequently will add up over time.
- While your T-shirt might not fade after hanging it on the line once, accumulated exposure to the sun will increase the risk of fading.
- Who doesn't want to increase the life-span of their favourite T-shirts!
The T-shirt below has been hung on the line using the NO FADE METHOD for several years. If I hadn't used this method, it would probably have been discarded by now...
HOW TO HANG YOUR T-SHIRTS TO Avoid Fade
- Do hang T-shirts inside out
- Do make sure that the neck hole faces the inside of the fold and is not exposed to the sun.
- Do fold the T-shirt over at the level of the armpits and place the pegs in the armpits. That way the peg marks will not be visible when you take the T-shirt off the line.
What you might not like about this method:
- If takes time - a few extra seconds to turn the T-shirt inside out and position it on the line
- The may be a crease line on the T-shirt where it is folded over the line after it has dried.
How NOT to Hang your T-shirts
- Don't hang your T-shirts right-side out. The whole of the T-shirt will be exposed to the sun and subject to fade, usually one side faces the sun & will be subject to more fade.
- Don't hang your T-shirts by the hem, even if they are inside-out. The open neck line will expose a patch of the shirt's outside to fading.
- Don't hang your T-shirts inside-out with the neck line exposed. You will create a patch of fading on the T-shirts back.
