Single-Finger Knitting
The basics
Thanks for your support!
The other day I was thinking about my childhood craft activities, and finger knitting was one I remembered fondly. Single-finger knitting is simple enough for older children to try successfully, though they may need some help converting the knitting into other objects like trivets or cup coasters. Here I am using Macrame Cord (from Kmart), but as a child we used wool/yarn which I find easier to finger knit with.
Materials Required
- Wool / Yarn / Macrame Cord
Instructions
3. Keeping the cord between the thumb and third finger firmly in place, secure the loose end between your middle and ring fingers. Then use your other hand to lift the back loop up, over the front loop and off the finger.
4. Take the cord from between your middle and ring fingers, then loop it up and over the finger again
(in front of the loop already on the finger)

5. Secure the loose end again between your middle and ring fingers. Then again lift the back loop over the front loop and off the finger. Pull down on the loose end to tighten the knitting knot, and then pull upwards to loosely tighten the loop around the finger.
6. Repeat the above step over until you have the required length of knitted cord.
7. To end off the knitting, thread the loose end the cord through the finger loop and pull tight.
