HOW TO USE RAINBOW MATHS TO HELP KIDS LEARN THEIR BASIC NUMBER FACTS
We can use Rainbows to help kids learn their maths facts - in this case which numbers can be used to make up the whole.
For example, with Number Four Maths Facts, each colour of the rainbow shows the different ways that a total of four can be formed:
0 + 4 = 4 (red)
1 + 3 = 4 (orange)
2 + 2 = 4 (yellow)
3 + 1 = 4 (green)
4 + 0 = 4 (blue)
An example:
If you start on the right hand side of the rainbow, lets use the yellow colour which is labelled '2'. If you follow the yellow over the rainbow you will reach, on the left hand side, the number '2'. Add these together to make '4'.

The rainbow can be used to learn every way in which '4' can be made.
You can also point to the right hand number eg '3' on the green colour and ask "Three plus what equals four?". The child can guess their answer, and then check if they gave the correct answer, by following the green colour over the rainbow to the other side, in this example '1'.

I have made Rainbows for all the numbers from 4 through to 10, and created an addition sum sheet for each to check if the facts have been remembered and understood.
