Learning about Money - Coin Rubbings
For kids who are learning about money, coin rubbings can be a fun way for them to learn about the different coins: their value, size and appearance.
This page is set out so that it can also act as a reference for the coins and their value after it is completed. Print out the template: Either right-click on the template jpg image (right) and save to your computer and print from there OR open the pdf doc (below) and select print. To do coin rubbings: Put the coin on the table. It is best aligned so the rubbing will be the "right way up" for the numbers and writing to be read. Place the piece of paper over the coin and feel the position of the coin underneath through the paper. Using a coloured pencil or crayon, rub over the coin while holding it in place. This is easiest if you hold one half while you rub the other, and then swap holding thumbs without letting go of the coin. Turn the coin over and rub the other side of the coin. ![]()
