Lens Protectors and Filters
Lens Protectors
If you have purchased a lens, then a protective filter to stop it getting accidentally damaged is a good idea...It's much cheaper to replace a filter than a lens! However, the quality of the filter is important - a cheaper filter (with lower quality glass) may reduce the quality of the photos taken by your lens.

Circular Polarising Filters
I have the Kenko Real Pro C-PL Filter. These filters are used to reduce unwanted reflections from non-metallic surface like water or glass and increase saturation and contrast of the sky and objects.
A polarizer frame is made of two pieces attached together. One piecer holds the glass and the other attaches to your lens. Once the filter is secured to the lens, the front part of the filter can rotate freely. Rotating the filter will allow you control the polarization effect. While looking through your viewfinder or at your screen you begin to rotate the filter until you get the desired amount of reflection removal. Polarizers work best when at a 90° angle from the sun. Polarising filters will also provide 1-2 stops of Neutral Density for longer exposures. |
Neutral Denisty Filters
For a brilliant explanation on how neutral density filters work and how to use them see
urth.co/magazine/neutral-density-filter-explained
ND filters vary in the amount of light they filter out (amount of light reduction) and therefore different situations require different ND filters.
I currently use my Polarising Filter as a ND filter, but a larger range is definitely on my wish list.

Filter Re-sizing Step-up Adapter Rings
Polarising and ND filters are expensive. If the interchangeable lenses on your camera are of different filter sizes, an alternative to buying a set of filters for each different lens is to buy a ring adapter set. This allows you to attach the same filters to different lens sizes.
For example I have two rings - one from 62-67mm and the other from 67-72mm. When I attach this to my 62mm lens, I can now use the filter I purchased for my 72mm lens on my 62mm lens |
Extension Tube Set
Extension Tube Sets for MAcro Photography
.Extension Tubes are mounted in-between the camera body and the lens. They do not contain any optics - they act as a spacer. This allows an existing lens to focus closer than its normal minimum focusing distance, magnifying your subject.
Using these, you can convert almost any lens into a Macro Lens while maintaining its original optical quality. The DG Extension Tubes can be used singularly or together. The greater the overall length of the extension tube(s) used, the closer the lens can focus. Each different camera type requires a compatible extension tube set . The extension tubes contain circuitry, maintaining the auto focus mechanism of your camera. |
Teleconverter
Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 1.4X TELECONVERTER MC-14
I have the MC-14. By placing this teleconverter between the camera body and lens, you can increase the magnification of your subject up to 0.6x (equiv. 35mm) and extend the focal length by a factor of 1.4x (40% more reach).
When coupled with my lens - the M.Zuiko ED 40-150mm f2.8 PRO lens, a maximum focal length of 210mm (420mm equiv. 35mm) can be achieved. Macro shooting is possible at a working distance of 20 inches (50 cm). The MC-14 is also compatible with the M.Zuiko ED 300mm f4.0 IS PRO lens, where a maximum focal length of 420mm (840mm equiv. 35mm) is achieved. Note - the teleconverter is only compatible with these two lenses. |
Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 2x Teleconverter MC-20
Using the 2x teleconverter MC-20 you can double the focal length of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO or M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO.
The MC-20 is compatible with the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO and M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO lenses. The MC-20 wasn't available when I purchased my MC-14, and I would love to own one of these.
