The Paringa Bridge
On the Murray RIver
The Paringa Bridge opened in January 1927 and carries the Sturt Highway traffic across the Murray River between Paringa and Renmark, South Australia. Until 1982, it also carried the Barmera railway line. With the rail no longer operating, the track section of the bridge has been converted to a pedestrian walkway.
The bridge has advanced engineering which allows a section of the bridge to be raised to allow larger river traffic to pass through. The lift-span section of the bridge continue to operate with the bridge scheduled to lift at 9.30am and 2.30pm daily (depending on river traffic).
